最近巷（特定の）でよく話題になるヘクトールHektor 73ｍｍｆ1.9。元来はポートレート用に設計された超高速レンズです。製造開始は1931年、製造番号は96500番からとされていますが、実際は9647x番が確認できていますし、出荷台帳には94,140-150の10本や、96,451からの出荷も記録されています。
当時としては物凄い高速・高性能レンズだったんでしょう。ライカレンズの中でも1936年にクセノンXenon 50ｍｍｆ1.5が作られるまでは、標準レンズも含めて最も明るいレンズでした。生産中止は1942年と言われていますが、ものの本によると1946年までごく少数製造されたようです。
総製造数は7225本ですから、微妙に希少価値のあるレンズといえます。そのうち、
レンズの見事な質感、描写の素晴らしさ、バリエーションの豊富さから、もっともっと評価・研究されてもよいレンズだと思います。
Ｌｅｉｔｚレンズは9万5000番（約）以前はレンズ内部に番号が付されていたため、10万番以前で外装にレンズ番号が表記されている個体は非常に少ないと言われておりますが、このＨｅｋｔｏｒの製造開始がまさにその番号に当たっております。9万番台の製造は467本ですし、9万番台のＨｅｋｔｏｒをお持ちの場合はかなりの珍品ということができます。
Ｈｅｋｔｏｒ73mmレンズには様々な分類の方法がありますが、もっとも公式？なものが、レンズcodeによるもので、「距離リングがニッケル仕上げ」のものが「ＨＥＫＯＮ」、そしてその中で距離計連動のものを「ＨＥＫＯＮ ＫＵＰ」とし、「距離リングがクローム仕上げ」のものを「ＨＥＧＲＡ」とというように分類されています。
次にバリエーションとして、Focusingでレンズ部分が回転するものと直進式のもの存在、、レンズブロックがネジ式で外れるものと、固定のもの、距離表示がメートルのものと、フィートのものなどがありますが、必ずしも上記ニッケル・クロームの分類とは一致していません。
このレンズは外観デザインが多様なことでも有名で、知られているだけでも、上の画像下段の左から、
①オールブラック、
②オールクローム、
③焦点距離リング下部がニッケル、他がブラックのツートンでマウント部がブラックのもの、（仮称：ﾆｯｹﾙ・ﾌﾞﾗｯｸ）
④焦点距離リング下部がクローム、他がブラックのツートンでマウント部がクロームのもの、（仮称：ｸﾛｰﾑ・ｸﾛｰﾑ）
⑤焦点距離リング下部がクローム、他がブラックのツートンでマウント部がブラックのもの、（仮称：ｸﾛｰﾑ・ﾌﾞﾗｯｸ）
⑥焦点距離リングが中央部分のみブラックで上下がクローム、マウント部がクロームののもの、（仮称：分離ｸﾛｰﾑ・ﾌﾞﾗｯｸ）
⑦焦点距離リング部分全体がクロームで他がブラックのもの、（仮称：全ﾍﾘｺｲﾄﾞｸﾛｰﾑ・ﾌﾞﾗｯｸ）
などがあります。とにかく頭がこんがらがるレンズです。
下に実際にチェックした個々のレンズ番号と、そのレンズ外観・バリエーションの実例を表にしてみました。
併せて、それにより判明したことをまとめてみます。
レンズ構成は「ｔｒｉｐｌｅｔ」の各々をそれぞれ2枚色消し構成にした3群6枚。
吉田正太郎氏の「写真レンズの科学」によると各群の凸レンズは重クラウンSK15、凹レンズは1群がフリントＦ２、2群が軽フリントLF6、3群が特軽フリントLLF2と段階的に屈折率・分散を低下させている珍しい構造。
Focusingでレンズ部分が回転しないタイプは、カラーフィルムがなかった当時に、赤・緑・青の3色のフィルターとAgfa社の特殊なフィルムで「擬似カラースライド」を作るためと聞いております。「アグファの特殊フィルターを付けて使用すると初期のアグファカラーの撮影が可能。このフィルターは３色の色帯に分かれているが、この色帯が常に水平を保ってフィルムの乳材層に結像する必要があるため、ピント合わせ時に鏡胴が回転しないで直進するHEGRA(直進ヘリコイド・タイプ)でないといけない」との記述をいただきました。
そして、こちらも「元祖滲みレンズ」の１本。時期的にはSummilux35ｍｍよりも早く、約20年前から滲みに対する興味を培ってくれたレンズです。よくタンバールと並べて評じられますが、写りはまったくの別物。タンバールはやはりソフトレンズの仲間であり、この「滲みレンズ」の分類にはなかなかなじみにくいですが、ヘクトールはまさに「滲む」レンズと言えます。さまざまなバリエーションのなかで、私の所有しているのは、ヘリコイドがオールクロームで直進式、レンズ部が分離可能なタイプで、それを利用して一眼レフ用のアダプターを特注で製作した（２０年くらい前）。このアダプターはPenta645のものを活用したものですが、非常に良く出来ており、無限から「30cm」までぴたりとピントがきます。また、つい最近オールブラックとオールクロームを入手しました。
Hektor 73mmf1.9 which becomes a kind of topic well recently around myself.
It is a super-high-speed lens originally designed for the portrait. It
would be the frightful high-performance lens for those days because a production
starts in 1931. It was the fastest lens in Leica also including the standard
lens until Xenon 50mmf1.5 was started productionin 1936. Stopping producing
is said in 1942, but, according to a certain book, it seems to have been
exclusively produced a few until 1946. Since the total number of manufactures
in the meantime is 7225, it can be a lens which has scarcity value delicately.
Since, as for the Leitz lens, the serial number was given to the inside
of lens before No. 95,000 (about), it is said that there are few individuals
appearing the serial number at the exterior before No. 100,000, and the
manufacture start of this Hektor was almost this timing. Therefore, it
may be said that it is a considerable rare lens when you have Hektor of
the 90000th.
There are several ways of classifications of
this Hektor73mm lens. The most official? way is by lens code, which classifies "finishing
of the Helicoid with nickel" is "HEKON", and "HEKON
KUP" is rangefinder couples among them, and “finishing of the Helicoid
with chrome” is "HEGRA". Next remarkable difference of two types, one
type is rotating the lens portion by Focusing, and the other goes straight. But
the relation with above nickel or chrome finish is not clear yet. Moreover,
although there are also two types, one type separates the lens block by a screw,
and the other is fixed, the relation between these types and above features
could not be checked yet either.
This lens is also famous for the variations
of external design, as far as I know,
1/all black
2/all chrome
3/the lower part of Helicoid is nickel, other
part of Helicoid is black, and the lowest mounting part is black
4/ the
lower part of Helicoid is chrome, other part of Helicoid is black, and the
lowest mounting part is chrome

Anyway, this lens is such a complicated
one.
Lens composition is 3groups 6lenses which
made each lens of "triplet" into achromatic doublet respectively. According
to "the science of the photographic lens" of Shotaro Yoshida, the composition
of this lens is rather unusual, the convex lenses of each group are heavy crown
SK15, concave lens in first group is flint F2, 2nd group is light Flint LF6, 3rd
group is very light Flint LLF2, whose refractive index and variance is reduced
orderly.
