Lens Impression
There are various famous lenses among Kodak Ektar lenses..
Among them, this Ektar 45mmf2.0 equipped on Bantam Special is so popular
named after 50mmf1.9 for Ektra, 47mmf2.0 for Kardon.
Although Bantam Special is called as the best design camera in the history
of small cameras, we can not see this camera is used practically in our
usual life, because it uses 828 film which had already been discontinued long ago and also difficult to make by ourselves because of the necessity of the back paper of the 35mm equivalent size film.
This fantastic designed camera was designed by Walter Dorwin Teague, american insustrial designer , and Hungarian Joseph Mihalyi. Mihalyi have been working in Kodak
company from 1923 to 1954 as the camera designer who designed Kodak Ektra
camera later. Teague is famous rather as the designer of aircrafts B707,B727,B737,B747
, I feel strongly the relation about the design between Bantam Special
and the study of aero hydrodynamics of those aricrafts.
The description of this lens is intresting because of its unique mixture
of the resolution, the moderate flare, and the disorder in the peripheral
area. It is a difficult lens in the full aperture, but becomes very clear
with closing aperture, I think it interesting to use various way in this
one lens.
The pictures in Kyoto below were taken mostly with full aperture, but you
can compare the difference with some picuture, 2nd line most left Daigo-temple
, 4th line most left ruined building, and 3rd line 2nd from right river
photo which are closed around f5.6.
